Si era venuti a conoscenza che John Mellencamp e Bruce Springsteen stessero lavorando assieme già dallo scorso maggio, quando il primo aveva rivelato che il secondo sarebbe stato presente a voce e chitarra nell’album che stava preparando, mentre più di recente erano stati fotografati assieme nel New Jersey.
Ora questa collaborazione, la prima in studio per i due grandi rocker americani, è stata resa nota e si tratta di un brano scritto da Mellencamp intitolato Wasted Days. Un brano dolente, dall’impronta folk e con un violino a guidarla, che riflette sull’inesorabile passare del tempo, sulla vecchiaia, sulla consapevolezza dell’avvicinarsi della fine, tutti temi che anche Springsteen ha affrontato nei suoi ultimi lavori.
Wasted Days farà parte del nuovo album di Mellencamp, previsto per fine anno, ma del quale al momento non è ancora fissata una data d’uscita e di cui non si molto, se non che molte sono le canzoni registrate, anticipate tempo fa dall’ascolto parziale di un brano intitolato I Always Lie To Strangers. Solo uno dei progetti messi in campo da Mellencamp comunque, visto che ha appena pubblicato l’album live The Good Samaritan Tour, che dovrebbe essere il titolo anche di un film documentario sul tour del 2000, con voce narrante di Matthew McConaughey, ed è al lavoro anche su un musical intitolato “Small Town”.
Come saprete già, Springsteen si appresta invece a pubblicare l’album dal vivo The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts.
