Aretha è il cofanetto in 4CD che Rhino Records pubblicherà il prossimo 20 novembre dedicato ai quasi 60 anni di carriera di Aretha Franklin.
Tra le 81 tracce nuovamente rimasterizzate della raccolta, 19 faranno il loro debutto in CD e in digitale, come versioni alternative di hit classiche, demo, rarità e tracce live, come la sua incredibile versione di (You Make Me Feel) Like A Natural Woman presso The 38th Annual Kennedy Center Honors nel 2015.
Per dare una migliore prospettiva sulla vita e sulla carriera di Aretha Franklin, la raccolta è accompagnata dalle note di Rochelle Riley, autore e responsabile delle arti e della cultura nella città di Detroit, e di David Nathan, un giornalista musicale che ha intervistato la Franklin più volte di qualsiasi altro scrittore in vita.
La raccolta include anche artwork straordinari dell’elogiata artista Makeba KEEBS Rainey, che fornisce la sua cifra stilistica a una foto della Regina del Soul scattata dal leggendario fotografo Neal Preston.
Il nuovo box set di Rhino arriverà poco prima della premiere di Respect, l’atteso film biografico sulla vita della Franklin, con protagonista Jennifer Hudson. Sia la versione in CD singolo che in 2 LP con le 20 tracce highlight del box sarà disponibile dallo stesso giorno.
La raccolta copre tutti i passi principali del percorso dell’artista, dal 1956 di Never Grow Old, alla citata traccia live del 2015, con una predilezione per il periodo Atlantic tra il 1967 e il 1979.
